Meet Abraham

Ibrahim Mitri Elias, also known as Abraham, is running for Trustee with Conseil scolaire Viamonde to bring experienced, faith-based leadership to French-language education. A devoted Catholic and long-time parish leader, Ibrahim serves on the board at St. Maron Parish in Markham, where he sits on the Building Committee and acts as the parish accountant. He previously served on the board of Our Lady of Lebanon Parish in downtown Toronto and as Regional Secretary for North America of the World Lebanese Cultural Union.

Educated in French Catholic schools at Collège des Frères Mont La Salle in Lebanon, Ibrahim later earned a B.Sc. and a degree in Business Administration from the Lawrence Institute of Technology in Detroit. He immigrated to Toronto in 1987, drawn by its multicultural character and vibrant francophone community. For 36 years, he has worked as a financial controller, bringing rigorous stewardship and accountability to every role he undertakes.

As the husband of Georgina, a teacher at a Viamonde school, and father to Patrick, Mitri, and Mark—all graduates of Viamonde schools—Ibrahim has a deep family commitment to French-language public education. His priorities as trustee include transparent financial oversight, student achievement and well-being delivered in French, support for teachers and school leaders, and stronger partnerships with parishes and cultural communities, serving as the bridge between parents and the school board. Ibrahim’s record reflects a consistent theme: service grounded in faith, responsibility, and a lifelong dedication to the French language and Francophone identity.
